The first (base) component dropped in the assembly is fixed automatically, where ever it is dropped. If you prefer to formalise it’s position relative to the assembly planes then RMB the component > Float in the FeatureManager Design Tree then create mates to the origins or asm planes.

A quick method for aligning the two origins is to not place the component but keep it moving in the assembly space and simply pick the OK tick.

 

Positioning the unplaced component

LMB drag the unplaced component parallel to the screen.

RMB drag to tumble the unplaced component.

RMB > Move with Triad to use a 3D dragger, this will disappear each time you click in the back ground.

 

 

Smart Mates

Drag the component using the first reference face. Hold Alt and drag to the second reference face, an appropriate mate will be offered, use the flip in the floating menu if needed.

Positions of assembly components are indicated by:

(f) fixed (locked in place)

(–) under defined

(+) over defined

(?) not solved

 

Exploded View

Select the Configuration Manager tab at the top of the Design Tree

RMB on the Default configuration > New Explode View
